2k22 Release Reaction

The release of 2k22 has been long awaited, due to the fact the 2k community hated 2k21. On September 10, 2021 the game was released. The first experience with the game in creating your "MyPlayer" was surprising due to the new builds that you could make. The new pie charts helped in creating new builds with different capabilities and new names. The new shooting system is also fantastic because you don't need badges to shoot the ball as long as you have good shooting attributes and good shot selection. This makes the gameplay very fun and fresh compared to 2k21. The efforts by 2k to focus on defensive improvements was reiterated by making the steal attribute more important and having good defensive IQ. This allows players with actual skill to show their dominance on the courts.

On the other hand, the release did have its flaws. After creating your "MyPlayer" many people had issues trying to connect to the servers. In my case, it took about an hour to connect online so I could play with my friends. Another big issue with the game is that people did not receive the VC they had purchased with the more expensive game versions. You were also unable buy VC. This problem was later solved, but 2k needs to put in an effort to fix this because some people were already 85 overall because they received their VC, whereas others were only 60 overall because they did not receive the VC or couldn't buy any.  This is important because it creates a big gap between player capability. The last problem was server connections. I personally disconnected multiple times in the middle of games which caused me to receive a loss even if my team had won. It also prevented me from receiving rewards from playing the game.

To sum up the release, it was quite successful and enjoyable despite the early inconveniences. The improvements to the game definitely brought the community back together and maybe increased the fanbase. The improvements outweigh the flaws and the game is very active. This 2k might even be the most successful 2k in a long time or even the most successful to date. The community is enjoying both the current gen (PS4) and the next gen (PS5).
